Vtg Velvet Italian Wedding Bedspread Couple Villa Garden Harp Roses Angel 84x106

Vintage Italian sculpted velvet bedspread in red, gold, blue, cream and pink. Typically these bedspreads were produced in 1950s 60s Italy using a cotton rayon blend (likely silk rayon).

They were part of a woman's trousseau, and more often than not, remained unused and stored away, as mothers looked to pass them on to their daughters. This particular bedspread looks not to have been laundered and is crisp. As the bedspread is washed, it becomes silky and takes on more sheen. Please use a very gentle cycle, with cold water and just a bit of soap and wrap fringe inwards. This particular bedspread features a central medallion of a noble man courting a peasant woman in a villa garden with cupid looking on, while each corner depicts a woman playing a harp.

Garlands of roses and fern-like scrolls permeate the bedspread. Fringe is in good general condition, with about 6 - 8 loops which have become detached. Should be an easy fix to sew back (see next to last pic). Please note that textiles incur wear, even if not used and stored away. Often these bedspreads were not rotated, refolded and aired periodically, so some wear is often the case, especially in the fringe.

I n a few spots on the reverse, some bunching of threads exist created during manufacturing process(see last pic)... These cannot be seen on front. Will fit a queen bed at 84" x 106" and some king-size beds. Please compare your bed to these measurements carefully.
